Brazil is where VOA began, and it remains our deepest practice. Our founder lives and works in Brazil, we file residence applications with the Brazilian authorities every week, and every case is executed with vetted local lawyers and followed through to decision and registration. Below is the full scope of what we handle in Brazil: immigration, citizenship, our birth programmes and the landing services around them.
Brazil visa and residence routes
Digital Nomad Visa (VITEM XIV)
Brazil's digital nomad framework, Resolution CNIg no. 45/2021, lets remote professionals live in Brazil for one year, renewable, while working for a foreign employer or foreign clients. The published requirement is remote income of at least US$1,500 per month from abroad, or US$18,000 in available funds. We prepare and file both variants: the consular VITEM XIV visa, and the residence authorisation filed from inside Brazil for applicants already in the country, no flight home, no consular appointment. We build the evidence set that decides these files: employment contracts or service agreements stating the remote nature of the work, income statements that match across documents, apostilled and sworn-translated records, and a clean, consistent application.
Retiree Visa
For retirees receiving a pension abroad who want to make Brazil home, based on a demonstrable monthly pension transfer to Brazil above the published minimum (currently US$2,000 per month). We prepare the pension and income evidence, file the application, and handle the registration steps that follow approval, through to permanent status.
Family, spouse and stable union (reagrupamento familiar)
Residence through marriage to a Brazilian or resident, through a documented stable union (união estável), or through a Brazilian child. These files rise or fall on the quality of the relationship evidence: we build the documentary record properly (cartório declarations, joint-life evidence, civil-status documents apostilled and sworn-translated), and file with the Federal Police or the Ministry of Justice as the case requires.
Investor visas: business, innovation and real estate
Residence through investment under Resolution CNIg no. 13/2017: direct investment in a Brazilian company (currently from R$500,000, reduced to R$150,000 for qualifying innovation and technology ventures), or a qualifying real-estate purchase (currently from R$1,000,000, with a reduced threshold in the North and Northeast). Investor files are scoped case by case with our local lawyers and executed alongside your own advisers. Tax and investment advice itself stays with trusted referred specialists.
Brazilian citizenship and family programmes
Birth in Brazil: our flagship programme
A child born on Brazilian soil is Brazilian from birth under the Constitution, and the parents of a Brazilian child become eligible for residence. Our birth programmes coordinate the entire legal side: the newborn's birth certificate, Brazilian ID and CPF, both parents' residence applications, sworn-translation coordination throughout, and structured support around the birth itself with a dedicated case manager on our premium tier. Families plan this six to twelve months ahead. The earlier we start, the smoother it runs.
Brazilian citizenship by descent
Children of Brazilians born abroad can have their Brazilian nationality registered and confirmed. We handle the registration and confirmation process end to end, and when the family paper trail needs rebuilding we run genealogical and certificate searches directly in Brazilian registries and cartórios.
Naturalisation
Ordinary naturalisation generally requires four years of residence in Brazil (reduced to one year for applicants with a Brazilian spouse or child) plus Portuguese-language ability and a clean record. We assess eligibility honestly, assemble the file and follow it through the Ministry of Justice to decision.
Landing in Brazil
Approval is the middle of the process, not the end. We handle the steps your new status triggers: registration with the Federal Police and your residence card (CRNM), your CPF (the tax number Brazilian daily life runs on), and home-finding assistance when you want your first address secured before you land.
How we work in Brazil
Every engagement starts with an Initial Consultation with our founder: a live triage of your situation, your route confirmed, your top risks identified, and a written verdict with the recommended next step. If we proceed, scope and fee are agreed in writing before signature (the fee you sign is the fee you pay), and your file is prepared, filed and followed proactively to decision, with six months of aftercare once your move is delivered. Frequently asked questions
Can I apply from inside Brazil without leaving?
Often, yes. Several routes (including the digital nomad and family routes) can be filed as residence authorisations from within Brazil. Whether that is the right strategy depends on your current status and timing, which is exactly what an Initial Consultation settles.
What income do I need for the digital nomad route?
The published thresholds are US$1,500 per month in foreign-source remote income, or US$18,000 in available savings. The paperwork proving it (contracts, statements, employer declarations) is where files succeed or fail, and it is where we put the work.
Is the birth in Brazil route legitimate?
Yes. Citizenship by birth on Brazilian soil is written into the Brazilian Constitution, and residence for the parents of a Brazilian child is an established legal route. Our role is to make sure every step is done properly, on time and with the right documents.
How long does it take?
Timelines vary with the route and the authorities' workload. Some residence authorisations come through in weeks, others take months. We give you a realistic estimate in writing before you sign, and keep you updated as your case progresses.
